Can stress, anxiety and depression cause strange thoughts?
March 18th, 2009 | by Michael |?CherryChapstick? asked:
I haven’t been diagnosed w/ depression, but I suspect I have it, as well as anxiety and I’m definitely struggling with stress…you put all these together, and sometimes I get strange thoughts (like especially when everything’s going smoothly, I force myself to think about something bad like dying or getting hurt) and I overworry and making myself sick and all that…is that typical of someone who battles all of this mind clutter?

Very much so. I have depression and an anxiety disorder and the hardest part right now is that I worry about people I care about dying and everything that could possibly go wrong. The only thing that’s helped has been anti-anxiety meds.

Sounds like GAD=Generalized Aniexty Disorder and you could have some depression talk with your primary care Dr see what he has to say

This is very typical. I have anxiety and panic attacks and trust me sometimes death is all you can think about. Just don’t let it take control of your life. It’s ok to think about it a little but if you think about it too much it will end up controlling your life.
Good luck!

Yes it can. Try replacing the bad thoughts with good ones. If you allow yourself to dwell on the negative ideas that come into ones head. You will not come out of it. You will have days when it will be easier to deal with the strange ideas. But some days it will be hard to focus. Doing things that keep you busy, helps a great deal. You will have less time to worry.

i think so… usually people who face depression have a bit of ocd… they think of obsessive thoughts about dying, loved ones dying or getting hurt. i highly recommend you visit the doctor and get on some medication such as zoloft. depression and anxiety can really paralyze you and your progress in life. i faced it and many people have. i didn’t want to go to the doctor because i was embarrassed to say i was depressed. it got so bad with obsessive thoughts that I had to force myself to go. When I went on meds I realized how messed up I was because I realized that I forgot or didn’t realize how nice simple things like the sun shining on me felt!

I would say that from what you said that you’re right that you have depression. I could ramble off a bunch of suggestions that worked for me but that may not be helpful. So instead of that I will ask you, something ask the question “why?” to everything you wrote. “Why am I stressed?”, and so untill you find the root of your problem. I hope you don’t take that offensively, I just believe we all have our problems.

you didn’t say how old you were and it would have helped a lot to know you age. but even though it seems that you are a very negative person and that can surely lead to messed up thoughts like you have and only you can change that by your self or a therapist. just remember, there are thousands of people just like you. you seem to have had a past that wasn’t very good to you. be it your parents which is usually the case. you see, parent are responsible for the welfare of there children and they need to give them positive guidance and show them the way. if they don’t, children have to figure it out by them self’s or ask there friends which know nothing about the subject but try to figure it out as they speak. so you have the choice to think negative or positive. it is only a choice and thinking positive is harder than thinking negative cause that’s what you are used to thinking. so try to change your thoughts to positive every time you have a negative one. it takes some work but it can be done but you and only you can make that decision. you just need to ask your self do i want to live a messed up life and think negative all the time or do you want to live a well balanced, happy life and go with the flow . you see you have a choice and i hope you go the positive route. so good luck to you and also remember to love your self cause you deserve it. we all do. peace out!!!!!

You can think about something so hard that it becomes reality in your brain.
